Dr. Tracey Nguyen maintains a private practice 30 minutes outside of Washington, DC, in Northern Virginia. She is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. On top of being trained by some of the best leaders in dentistry, she continued her training at at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. In 2016, she was honored with Top 25 Women in Dentistry. Dr. Tracey Nguyen serves as a visiting faculty at Spear Education for the Airway Prosthodontics Workshop. As a member of the Wellness Dentistry Network, her practice is heavily based on integrating overall health, bridging the gap with medicine and dentistry. Recently she created the Sleep and Airway group in Northern Virginia, an Interdisciplinary group made of sleep physicans, ents, allergerist, dentists, and myofunctional therapists. They focus on screening, diagnosing and treating children and adults with Sleep Disorder Breathing.
Topics to be addressed:
-Participants will understand how to recognize common malocclusion that have co-morbidities to sleep and airway diseases.
-Participants will understand common screening tools and digital images available.
-We will discuss various orthodontic tools in airway management for all ages.
-By understanding the goals of dental airway management, we can properly communicate with other specialists and develop an interdisciplinary team.
Dr. Michelle Weddle is a general dentist in private practice in NJ. She graduated from NYU College of Dentistry and completed a General Practice Residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. She has attended the Dawson Academy, Pankey
Institute, Kois Center, and Spear Education, searching for answers to events that she saw in her practice and patients that she could not explain. She started placing oral appliances for patients with sleep apnea in her practice in 2007 and completed the Dental Sleep Medicine mini-residency at Tufts in 2013. She also completed orthodontic training with the US Dental Institute in 2006 and shortly after that, has started putting together the relationship between airway, craniofacial structure, and TMJ disorders. She is currently a visiting faculty for the Airway Prosthodontics Workshop at Spear Education. She is a speaker for the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain’s Advanced Auxiliary Program, and is pursuing board certification with the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. She is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American College of Dentists. She is a member of the ADA, the International Association for Orthodontics, and the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health. Locally, she is a part of the GOTHAM Collaborative, which is a group of dentists, physicians and therapists collaborating on patients to assess Growth, Orthodontics, TMJ Health and Airway Management.
At the end of the presentation, attendees will understand:
1. What is happening when the TMJs click.
2. The effect of oral appliances on the TMJ.
3. The relationship between airway issues and TMJ.
Dr. Christopher Brett is a new member of the Transcend Dental Implants and Periodontics team. He graduated from Ohio State University Perio program and is excited to serve the Tulsa community providing implant and periodontal care.
Dr. Brett will be speak about how airway problems impact the periodontal patient. He will also speak about what our practice is doing to help those patients.
